James R. Klock, 59

TOPSFILED—James Robert Klock, 59, of 34 Mansion Dr., actively involved in the planning and development of recreational facilities for the residents of this town, died Sunday in Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Shirley (Knickerbocker) Klock.

He was a former member of the Planning board, the Conservation Commission and Recreation committees of Topsfield.

Mr. Klock was an aircraft engineer at the River Works plant of the General Electric Co. in Lynn.

Born in Little Falls, N.Y., he was the son of Mary (Brace) Klock of Little Falls and the late Kenneth Klock. He attended Little Falls schools and was a graduate of Rensselear Polytechnic Institute of Troy, N.Y. He resided in Schenectady, N.Y. before moving to Topsfield in 1958.

An Air Force Veteran of World War he was a member of the Congregational Church of Topsfield.

In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves two daughters. Mrs. Fran (Sharon) Trueita of Danvers and Miss. Deborah Klock of Topsfield; a son James Klock of Klock of Tyngsborough and four grandchildren.

Memorial funeral services will be held in the Topsfield Congregational Church Tuesday evening at 8.

In another section of the same newspaper had the following death notice:

KLOCK—Of Topsfield, May 2, James Robert Klock of 34 Mansion Dr., husband of Shirley (Kickerbocker) Klock. Memorial funeral services will be held in the Topsfiled Congregational Church Tuesday evening at 8. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the “North Street Recreational Facilities,” co Mrs Alice Castle, Town Hall, Topsfield, Mass. 01983. Interment in Grove Cemetery, Topsfield. Arrangements under the direction of the Peterson Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Danvers.

Klock Park, Topsfield, Massachusetts

In the town of Topsfield, Massachusetts there is a Park called Klock Park. I e-mailed the Library in Topsfield to see if I could find who this Klock Park was named after and why. I received the following e-mail from Wendy Thatcher, Reference Librarian, Topsfield Town Library.

"In response to your question about Klock Park in Topsfield, we found that the "Report of the Receipts and Expenditures of the Town of Topsfield for the Year ending December 31, 1977 states that the North Street Recreation and Conservation Area "was officially designated as Klock Park in honor of the late Bob Klock" in 1977. James Robert Klock was a resident of Topsfield who served on several town committees before his death in 1976."

I have James Robert Klock (Kenneth, Byron, Reuben, John Bellinger, George G, Johanguergh (Old George) and Hendrick Klock.) born March 07, 1917 in Danube, Herkimer County, New York. He died May 02, 1976 in Beverly, Massachusetts

and was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield, Massachusetts. James married Shirley Knickerbocker, May 23, 1942. I have them with three children; Sharon, James Edward, and Deborah. I have Sharon married to Frank Trueira, James to Joanne Wilson and Deborah to Frank Romano.

His parents, Kenneth and Mary "Brace" Klock lived in Little Falls, Herkimer Co., New York and are buried in Fairview Cemetery, Little Falls, New York.

I had James Robert Klock on my tree but did not know he had a park named after him. I asked Wendy if she would locate and send me a copy of the obituary for my web page and to see if there was any more information contained it the obituary I could use in this article. I received it in the mail February 6. Above is the Obituary
